Why We Gather
The point of gathering together is to strengthen each other in our believing; that through faith and patience we would begin to inherit all of the promises of God together (Heb 6:12). We could easily isolate by ourselves, cutting ourselves off from humanity and the world and experience by ourselves all that God has for us, but we would not be obeying God in his long range plan, his eternal purpose. (Eph 1:9-11)
Many people gather based on what they don’t believe in. In other words, whatever truth we are uncomfortable with, we cut out and only associate with those who have denied the same truth. Let it not be so with anyone who calls themself a “believer”.
According to the word of God, the five gifts of leadership to the Body of Christ are to help you leave your life and follow in the footsteps of Jesus; reaching the same level of ability and fullness, doing your own works of ministry (Eph 4:11-13). It takes strong fellowship between brothers and sisters who are all doing this together in order to stay unified in the tearing down of the gates of hell from our cities (Matt 16:17-19).
So we don’t gather based on what truth we agree on only. We gather together because Jesus has become Lord and master of our life and we are committing, to the death, to follow in his footsteps,. We are committing, to the death, to liberating the planet by proclaiming the kingdom is here with demonstrations of mercy, power, and love; healing the sick, raising the dead, casting out demons, cleansing lepers, and making disciples of all nations.
So, we are not gathering based on what makes us comfortable. We are gathering for the sake of being transfigured into the image of Christ. We are gathering for the sake of taking our place in the kingdom, obeying the Word of God and doing our part in the fulfilling of every detail of His long range plan.
